“Eunoia” is a performance that uses my brainwaves -- collected via EEG sensor-- to manipulate the motions of water. It derives from the Greek word “eu” (well) + “nous” (mind) meaning "beautiful thinking”. Electroencephalography (EEG) is a brainwave detecting sensor. It measures frequencies of my brain activity (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Theta) relating to my state of consciousness while wearing it. The data collected from EEG is translated in realtime to modulate vibrations of sound with using software programs. EEG sends the information of my brain activity to Processing, which is linked with Max/MSP to receive data and generate sound from Reaktor.

DESCRIPTION
Is there a connection between sound, vibrations and physical reality? Yes, and it is called Cymatics.
Cymatics, the study of wave phenomena, is a science pioneered by Swiss medical doctor and natural scientist, Hans Jenny (1904-1972). It is derived from the Greek 'kyma' meaning wave and 'ta kymatica 'meaning' matters pertaining to waves.
In 1967 Dr. Hans Jenny published a book titled Cymatics. Inspired by systems theory, the work of Ernst Chladni, and his medical practice, Jenny began an investigation of periodic phenomena but especially the visual display of sound. He conducted experiments animating inert powders, pastes, and liquids into life-like, flowing forms, which mirrored patterns found throughout nature, art and architecture. All of these patterns were created using pure tones (simple sine wave vibrations) within the audible range. He was able to create a physical representation of vibration, or how sound manifests into form through the medium of various materials.
His fascinating work offers profound insights into both the physical sciences and esoteric philosophies. It illustrates the very principles which inspired the ancient Greek philosophers. These cymatic images are truly awe-inspiring, not only for their visual beauty in portraying the inherent responsiveness of matter to sound, but also because they inspire a deep recognition that we, too, are part and parcel of this same complex and intricate vibrational matrix.

Oneness and the Unified Field
Almost universally, ancient texts and traditions say to us, in the language of their time, that we are part of all that we see, that we are related through a Force to the events of our world, to one another, to the processes within our bodies and the Cosmos and beyond. Some scientists are calling this field Nature's Mind. Some scientists are calling it the Mind of God (a famous name given to it by Stephen Hawking in his book A Brief History of Time.) Many researchers now are calling it the Quantum Hologram This unity field, this Quantum Hologram, responds to the things that we do and the way we think and feel. It allows us as individuals to participate in the events of our lives rather than feeling hopeless as we stand by and watch the world teeter on the brink of war, or watch our loved ones succumb to illness and diseases that we really don't understand.

Since 1999 they have produced an annual Year Book showcasing the very best formations of each year along with a written commentary researched by Karen Alexander. The Crop Circle Year Book books are beautifully produced and they contain some of the best crop circle photography you will find anywhere. They are self-published, in small numbers and are not widely available, many consider them to be the most important crop circle documents available.
Both Steve and I have a deep love and appreciation of art and a passionate belief in its transformative role and function in society – again and again you will see this reflected in our work with the circles. Just as the crop circles are about inspiration, visual impact and the symbolic, so the work we do attempts to echo this. Mostly we try to let the circles do the talking!
